Fiji Sugar Corporation’s (FSC) first sugar shipment is due early September.

This was revealed to SunBiz by Fiji Sugar Corporation Chief Executive Officer, Bhan Singh.

Mr Singh said the sugar would be exported to Tate & Lyle, a global supplier of food ingredients in the United Kingdom.

“Tate & Lyle has been FSC’s longtime bulk sugar buyer,” Mr Singh said.

He highlighted that the Rarawai Mill had crushed over 35,000 tonnes of cane last week, the mill’s personal best.

“This has been the best weekly count from the last 13 years.”

“The cane supply has improved in the mills. The recent good weather helped farmers and FSC to have good crushing momentum.

“Last week, all three mills crushed around 102,600 tonnes of cane,” Mr Singh said.

He said because of the COVID-19 pandemic, some key members of FSC’s operations team were in isolation.

“However, we are doing our best with alternative options to ensure business is run without disruptions.”

“As we are in planting season, farmers need rain to supplement the planting and ratoon management efforts,” he added.

Mr Singh commended the employees of the three mill areas; Labasa Mill, Lautoka Mill and Rarawai Mill.

“They are commended for their commitment and efforts in trying to keep the focus and work towards achieving the company’s annual targets,” he said.
